2013 - Some 10th Annual HHEW Leaders Conference & Retreat Photos
Wonderful pictures! I am glad you all had a great time. Let me ask this question: What did you learn? What was accomplished? What are the next steps moving forward? What did I miss by not attending?

We learned about the branding of HHEW and what we've accomplished so far. As a group we aligned on some key aspects of who we are and what we do and how we communicate that internally and externally. We discussed the organizations that we are supporting in each of our respective communities. We discussed the impact on policy that we are having in each of our communities. We learned that about 75% of us identify with the third leadership profile of the TALO Leadership Theory. We discussed what that means for us as a group and the impact we're making on the world. We learned about the TALO Leadership Theory in relation to the challenges at HBCUs and PWIs. We learned about what is going on academically within the group from the prospective of current administrators, faculty and students. At Saturday's luncheon, we presented Dr. Hilton with plaque honoring the 10 yrs of the HHEW confab and a copy of the TALO leadership profiles signed by all members (in attendance).
Personally, among the many things I learned over the past couple of days..... I gained great insight about how to handle my dissertation committee when it is time for me to defend. (Thanks Dr. Thrasher). I learned that HHEW member Dave McLaurin is a great musician. And most importantly I learned who Little Milton is and that Bruce really wants to have the next conference in California. :)
Informative sessions, great networking, wonderful people and fun times.

The 2014 conference will be in Las Vegas next year. The dates are June 18 thru June 22. This should give you enough time to plan. You would have enjoyed this conference. It was the best ever. We spent more time learning and discussing the TALO Leadership Theory in detail. Everyone brought and distributed handouts for their panels. Plus, we all had a great time.

If I don't start off by saying I had an awesome time, it wouldn't be "right" nor accurate: I HAD AN AWESOME TIME! (I have an issue with using the words right and accurate in the same sentence, but that's an entirely different discussion)
This was my first conference & I really wanted to 'feel out' what the experience would entail for me as a first-timer. I was pleasantly surprised by everything i.e., the meeting of great people, the great discussions & the overall connections that I personally made.
I had nothing to lose by coming to Vegas, but gained a collage of memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.
See you next year!

Great conference!!!!! Definitely no thanks needed towards me. I just want each and every HHEW conference to be a huge success. I think next year we will have a lot more participants. Anyway, Renee is the one who took such great photos for us and deserves all of the praise. I’m looking forward to seeing you at next year’s conference!!!!!!!
